Creativity: GEMS girls craft

Last night the GEMS girls club made felt pumpkins. GEMS is a Christian girls club at my church. I am a GEMS counselor. Here are pictures of the girls and their pumpkins.

These girls are so sweet and it is a joy to be their counselor. This craft was a little tricky because we kept running out of circles. If you do try it it's best to get lots of felt.

Creativity: A Black and White wreath

On my Friday Favorite Ideas I showed a picture of a wreath that was black and white with hot pink flowers. I made my own version of that wreath.

Here are the materials I used.

I started with a black metal wreath frame and wrapped the black and white material around it. I sewed three strips together to make it long enough.

I then attached some purple felt flowers I had made previously. If you want to learn how to make them go to http://lauraannv.blogspot.ca/2012/01/felt-flower-pillow-tutorial.html

There you have it, a new wreath for my front door.

Creativity: Embroidery Hoops

I saw an idea on an awesome website called Purl Bee which is in Soho, New York. My sister-in-laws introduced me to this site. I featured the idea on one of my Favorite Friday Ideas editions. Here is a look at it  again and I will show you my spin on it.

I went to Fabricland and bought some Fat Quarters of material as well as some embroidery hoops (which were only a couple of bucks each.)

Below are the materials I used.

An embroidery hoop comes in two parts. You put the material around the smaller hoop and insert it into the big hoop. There are little screws at the top of the bigger hoop to tighten it.

I sewed some lace on the blue material and inserted it into the embroidery hoop.

This is a super cute idea for a babies room or just a bedroom (that is where I put mine.) As I said before the embroidery hoops and the material are really cheap. You can glue the material into the embroidery hoop but I decided not to because I thought I might reuse these in the future.

Favorite Friday Ideas

I am very blessed to have an art studio/ craft room space. I have been slowly organizing it. This weeks edition of Favorite Friday Ideas is all about creating a creative space to work in. If you want to see where these ideas are from click source under the picture.

I want to do this for organizing my paper. Now where can I get a shutter?

This is a cute idea, I have a bunch of plastic drawers that could use some dressing up.

I love that this is color coded. My studio space is definitely not this neat, but it is something to aspire to.

I love ribbon. I used a dowel and some hooks to organize my ribbon. But I like this idea too.

This spool organizer is a cute idea. I have my thread in a vintage sewing holder.

What a cute way to organize material!

It's a hideaway art table. Just flip it up and it's stored away.

I have been enjoying looking at Wreaths. I am planning to make one for Christmas but another fall wreath might be in order too.

I think I may try this one this week.

Family: Krafty Kids

I was over at my adopted nieces and nephews house for the afternoon and supper on Thursday. We made some crafts and had a nice supper together. We made pumpkins out of felt and a Styrofoam ball.

In hindsight it was a little bit too difficult a craft for the young kids. Ivy and Desmond lost interest but Kora finished one. That is ok though, it's all about trying things out to see how it works.

The kids were super excited about the yummy apple crisp that their mom made for them.

William, my nephew, was excited too!

Later on that night I was chatting with my friend Esther about how I have discovered something. A while ago I was worried that I was going to be left behind because I was single and had no kids. But I have found a wonderful truth. If you serve your friends with kids and love their kids they want you along.

The key is to rejoice with your friends and family and love their kids. No one wants to be around someone who is bitter and miserable about the way their life has worked out. But if you rejoice and love you will not be left behind. Just a nugget of wisdom from this journey of mine.

Favorite Friday Ideas

This week I have been looking at wood signs made out of Barn board or old pallets. I want to make one myself. I have contacted a friends dad who does renovation projects and he salvaged some barn board from an old barn. I am going to try my hand at making one later on this month. Here are some examples of ones that I have found on other blogs and on Pinterest.com.

I have also been interested in Embroidery hoops and material. I have made a couple but am waiting to get my hands on more hoops. I have found some interesting ones online.

Well that is this week's edition of Favorite Friday Ideas. Happy Crafting!
